Overview

Education should never stop at the classroom door. Campus Compact of the Mountain West (CCMW) works with universities throughout the western US to ensure that the graduates of today are civically engaged and passionate about community service. CCMW coordinates partnerships between schools and service organizations, helping faculty and staff to incorporate service learning into their curriculum.

Our Discovery Process helped CCMW identify how their online presence could connect universities, students and service organizations to the rich programming and online services CCMW cultivates. The website should eliminate the barrier to crucial program resources: forms, reports and documentation. It should also expose grant opportunities, engagement stories and updates on events and conferences to university faculty and staff.

User Stories and Wireframing distilled these goals to tangible deliverables. Simplicity, professionalism and the inspiring outcomes of community service guide the original look and feel in a contemporary academic direction. A simple drag and drop interface allows CCMW staff to organize and present their important program resources without consulting developers or touching code. A customized, interactive program map, depicting just the region CCMW services, directs visitors to the correct program and contact information. Event management and registration are made effortless by synthesizing Drupal’s Webform module with customization to utilize web services provided by Elavon.

Open Media Foundation’s tried web process results in great outcomes. CCMW’s online presence is a sustainable product that will mobilize students to become civically engaged, community stewards for years to come. Combined with a passionate and experienced staff, the Open Media Foundation leverages open source tools and provides a 50% matching grant to ensure that the expense and complexity of web technology is not a barrier to any organizations' mission.

We connect student needs to community needs by empowering students to get involved in social issues where they can make a difference—not only in the lives of others, but in their own growth as students and citizens of the world.
